JUANITA RICHARDS

Juanita Richards

Acoustic Guitar - Vocals

Juanita Richards was seven years old the first time she stood on a stage with a guitar in her hands. It was her daddy who put it there — a great singer and guitarist himself — and the lesson he gave her that day has stayed with her ever since: make people feel important, and never let it go to your head.

More than four decades later, Juanita still lives by those words. Playing roughly 75 shows a year with The Band Silver, she brings a warmth and authenticity to every performance that audiences feel the moment she steps to the mic. She handles both acoustic guitar and bass, and her vocals cut through with the kind of clarity that only comes from someone who's been doing this her whole life.

Ask Juanita what she loves most about being in a band, and she'll tell you it's the learning — that every musician she's ever shared a stage with has taught her something. She's remarkably hard on herself (her words), always pushing to be better. The crowd, however, has no complaints.

How many instruments do you play?

I play guitar and bass

What was your favorite TV show growing up?

My favorite tv show is anything to do with solving crimes and I love comedy!

Who influenced you the most with music?

The person who influenced me the most was my daddy. Great singer and guitar player. He put a guitar in my hand and threw me up on stage at 7. He taught me the best way to be successful in music is to make people feel important, never let it go to your head!

We're you a good student in school?

I was an ok student in school, all I wanted to do was play music! Lol.

What's your favorite thing about playing in a band?

The best thing for me about being in a band is that I’ve learned something from every person I’ve ever played with. I always tell people surround yourself with other musicians and watch them. I have learned so much from so many!

Tell something most people may not know about you.

The one thing people may not know about me is I’m very hard on myself ALWAYS! I never think I ever sound good. I just get out there and try!
