JIMMY CHARPING

James Austin "Jimmy" Charping

Lead Guitar - Vocals

Jimmy Charping has been playing guitar since he was about 11 years old, and if you've ever seen him work a fretboard, you'd never guess he had to start somewhere. His early influences were a study in range — the Beatles on one end, the legendary Chet Atkins on the other — and that contrast shows up in everything he plays. At the root of it all, though, was his daddy, his first and most important musical influence, followed closely by a local guitar player named David Partain who helped shape his style.

Jimmy is the first to tell you that being in a band beats working for a living — though he'll also admit the band works harder for their fans than most people realize. He plays both guitar and bass, keeps things simple off stage, and carries a not-so-secret love of Michael Bublé that surprises just about everyone who hears it.

As founder and frontman of The Band Silver, Jimmy received the Hometown Heroes Recognition Award from the South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame — a well-earned tribute to a lifetime spent bringing live music to the Carolinas.
